I must give Karen credit: she has stayed married to me for 23 years. We are visiting The Big Apple and will post updates contemporaneously and pics after the return.
Dave and Becky have graciously agreed to come along for the ride.
We came up last night on the goTo bus; the driver missed the turn for the NJ turnpike. It was his first solo, and he apologized in English and then got directions in Cantonese.
Dave steered us to a Starbucks, which he had picked out from his Not For Tourists guide. Then on to six stories of Pearl Art Supply.

We took our daughter to college at a private, Christian school about a six hour drive. The GPS decided to take us on 74 W, so we saw the Natahala river in NC and the Ochoee river in TN. Although it was still bittersweet, the school helped make the parting less difficult.

My brother-in-law, Kevin, has helped me understand two technology keys that I would like to share with you. The first is that a T1 line is 1.5 Mb/sec, half duplex, but that it is a dedicated line. (Business class from Time-Warner might give you a larger maximum bandwidth, but the speed varies, depending on load.) The second is a technology called a femtocell, which is like a VoIP for a cell phone. It is a cell base station, but transmits over internet lines.

I have unpacked the Dell rack server, and it seems to make as much noise as a jet engine starting up. I found out from Justin at church that the VMware hypervisor does not go on the "bare metal"; instead, it goes on top of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) server. It's always amazing to me how a dab of expert knowledge can overcome hours of hacking.

The used Dell rack server came in on Thursday, but I have not had time to unpack it. Saturday was spent rebuilding Apogee's HP Proliant server, and I think I learned a lot of very useful things about RAID 1 and RAID 5 arrays.
The Fronius inverter replacement came in, and John and Chuck and I replaced it. It's putting power on the grid again.
