  • FLR
  • HAL
Fluror Corp (FLR) is yet another oil and gas and infrastructure company. Halliburton (HAL) explores and develops oil and gas properties. (They have divested themselves of the controversial portion of a private, overseas paramilitary force.) Even with (or because of) soaring energy prices, this energy sector of stocks is taking the lead.

If you don't read John Hussman, I would highly recommend him. Go here and click on the "Weekly Commentary." You'll read someone who actually displays independent thought and is able to synthesize and analyze the markets.

In this week's commentary, Hussman recommends another site, Decision Point; Carl Swenlin has received some instant "street cred" because of him. I'll have to review his fortnightly information and would like to consider devoting some of my portfolio to trading his weather vane.

I am researching trading systems, using Forex, with the help of TradeStation and a book,
Trading Systems That Work: Building and Evaluating Effective Trading Systems by Thomas Stridsman. It is a detailed process, but after the entry is decided, you spend the majority of your time deciding on exit parameters. This is probably the way it should be, as I have no control after I buy, so that's where I need to focus my energies. Right now, I am trying to determine profit targets and stop losses.

I think that once I have decided on all of the paramteres, I will use a technique like a Monte Carlo simulation to decide how many contracts will be bought or sold short, in order to keep from going broke.

Enjoy trading this week, and be careful.

Noble Energy develops and produces crude oil and natural gas in the United States and internationally. Xilinx develops and manufactures programmable logic solutions. From that not-so-helpful explanation, it sounds like they program EPROM memory, but I'm not sure.

They're saying that the floods in Iowa are exceeding the 500-year flood plains. I thought they only came in "100-years" and "catastrophic." My thoughts go out to the many people displaced in the Midwest.

Oh, the Ags like Corn and Soybeans are also up very dramatically. Probably because you can't plant or harvest from a row boat.

Enjoy trading this week, and be careful.

We've had several days of record-breaking temperatures. From last Thursday through Monday, we have broken 95 degrees. Today set a record of 99 degrees, beating the previous 1899 record.

Friday saw an almost 400-point drop on the Dow. Yes, I feel vindicated, thank you. Keep those short-sales and put purchases alive.

Enjoy trading this week.
